Bigriggen Camping Park
Last weekend we visited Bigriggen Park Camping for the first time. Our number one requirement when selecting our destination for this particular weekend, was that it had to be dog friendly. We’ve been unable to take our little furry pal on our travels the last few months so leaving her at home this weekend was not an option!
We left straight after school on Friday afternoon and it took about 1 hour and 30 minutes to get from Brisbane to Bigriggen which is located not far from Rathdowney in the Scenic Rim.
It’s a beautiful, grassy property set amongst the gumtrees, with 60 acres of powered and unpowered campsites available. There’s a great swimming hole as well as plenty of water for canoeing/kayaking and fishing further up the river. We took along inflatable tubes for the kids and they had a lot of fun on the gentle rapids running alongside the main swimming area.
As it was the first weekend of the Queensland school holidays, we were expecting it to be busy and it was, but there was still plenty of space for everyone.
Bigriggen have shower and toilet facilities - hot showers are $1 each and they are well maintained. Campfires are allowed and most importantly for us, dogs are also permitted in the park. They are not permitted in the swimming area, but we did notice a couple of well behaved dogs resting next to their families on the river bank away from the water.
Take your bikes! They’ve got a great little bike track too.
The management are just lovely! They are so friendly, kind and accommodating and really enhanced the experience for us. The kids were particularly thrilled with the large array of lolly bags and other sweets on offer up at the office. Great selection of ice-creams too as well as ice, milk, bread and other items.
All in all, we really enjoyed our stay. The dog loved it too. We look forward to visiting again some time! You can book your stay here - https://www.bigriggen.com.au/
